admitted free Open to the public Austin, TX – Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez will host a special musical event on March 11 celebrating the SXSW Film Festival. Del Castillo and Patricia Vonne will be sharing the Antone’s stage with Rodriguez and Chingon. Earlier that day, Rodriguez will appear on a panel at the Festival to talk about the April release of “Grindhouse,” the much-anticipated new film he co-wrote and co-directed with Quentin Tarantino, and the history behind the “grindhouse” genre. Chingon is a musical collective started by Rodriguez and is comprised of some of his closest musical compadres. At the Film Fest Party, he will be joined by Carl Thiel, Rick and Mark del Castillo, Alex Ruiz from Del Castillo, and other surprise guests. Chingon is Spanish for Bad Ass, and while the lineup in the band is ever-changing to include Rodriguez’ friends and talents, the name always applies. Del Castillo is the Austin-based band that has melded Flamenco, Rock, Latin, Blues, and World music to become a nationally recognized cross-cultural phenomenon. Del Castillo was founded by guitarist brothers Rick and Mark del Castillo and is fronted by charismatic vocalist Alex Ruiz, backed by the rock-solid rhythm of Albert Besteiro (bass), Mike Zeoli (drums), and Carmelo Torres (percussion). The band has been the recipient of ten Austin Music Awards, and thanks to their close working relationship with Rodriguez, their music has been heard in such feature films as Kill Bill, Vol.2, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, and Spy Kids 3D: Game Over. Their music will also be heard in the upcoming release The Cry, based on the legend of La Llorona. Rodriguez shot and edited the Del Castillo Live DVD. Patricia Vonne has rapidly risen within the Texas music scene thanks to an infectious bilingual mix of musical styles and her vibrant stage presence. Her stirring performances have made her one of the busiest artists on the Texas live music circuit as well as in Europe where she has made numerous appearances in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Norway, and the UK. She appeared in Rodriguez’ Sin City, and her music is on the soundtrack for his Once Upon A Time In Mexico.
