PRESS RELEASE:

Like the band’s previous albums, Brothers of the Castle, Vida and DVD, Del Castillo Live, BROTHERHOOD will be released on Smilin’ Castle Records via Crystal Clear Distribution. Del Castillo has melded Flamenco, Rock, Latin, Blues and World music to become a cross-cultural phenomenon. Comprised of brothers Rick and Mark del Castillo on twin lead Spanish guitars, charismatic vocalist Alex Ruiz, and the rock-hard rhythm section of Mike Zeoli (drums), Albert Besteiro (bass) and Rick “The Rev” Holeman (percussion), Del Castillo is based in Austin, TX where they’ve attracted a massive following. Since forming five years ago, the band has transcended its local base, sharing stages with Ozomatli, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, deSol, Kinky, and other name acts in Texas and throughout the country.

The band has been the recipient of ten Austin Music Awards, in categories ranging from “Band of the Year,” to “Best World Music Band” to “Best Traditional Latin Band” to “Best Latin Contemporary Band,” which only serves to underscore the fact their music knows no boundaries. Brotherhood is something of departure as the repertoire is performed in Spanish and English and includes “I Never Cared For You," their widely anticipated collaboration with Willie Nelson. The song, composed by Nelson, is the only track out of the album’s total of fourteen that was not written by Del Castillo band members. Commenting on the new album, Mark del Castillo remarked, “Brotherhood is totally representative of what this band is all about. From day one, we considered ourselves brothers, in music if not blood. This band is a family.”

Thanks to their close working relationship with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, their music has been heard in such feature films as “Kill Bill, Vol. 2,” “Once Upon A Time In Mexico” and “Spy Kids 3D: Game Over.” Among other high profile events, they’ve played two of Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnics and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, and they’ve been featured on numerous national and local TV outlets including The George Lopez Show, LATV and American Latino TV.

The band is set to launch Brotherhood in Austin with a special performance at Waterloo Records on the day of release followed by a whirlwind Texas and New Mexico tour that culminates in Austin on April 29th. Plans for an extensive North American tour thereafter are being finalized and will be announced shortly. See the SHOWS page for performance dates.
